Our Story & Philosophy

YAPA – Contemporary Knitwear with Andean Soul

Hola from La Paz, Bolivia—where most of our YAPA sweaters are handcrafted by artisans.

We bring together traditional Andean craftsmanship and contemporary design to create timeless pieces made from 100% baby alpaca and other natural fibers. Designed in New York by our founder, Bernarda Pelaez, and sustainably produced in Bolivia, each sweater and accessory is brought to life through centuries-old knitting techniques passed down through generations.

Alpacas and llamas have been cherished since the time of the Incas, and their luxurious fiber remains at the heart of Andean culture. At YAPA, we honor this heritage by working hand-in-hand with exceptional Bolivian artisans who knit, finish, and often hand-embroider every piece—making each garment truly one of a kind.

Our mission goes beyond fashion. We are dedicated to supporting Bolivia’s artisan industry, creating fair and safe job opportunities, and contributing to a more ethical and sustainable future. YAPA designs seasonless basics with a playful twist—pieces meant to last, not follow fleeting trends. We believe quality is an investment, and mindful craftsmanship means less waste and less pollution.

Every YAPA piece blends modern, fun design with Andean heritage and sustainability—knitwear to cherish for years to come.
