Our Story

YAPA began in 2019, founded by Bolivian designer and Creative Director Bernarda Peláez with a desire to share the extraordinary natural fibers of the Andes and the craftsmanship of Bolivian artisans with the world.

Born from the landscapes and traditions of La Paz and shaped by the energy of New York, YAPA brings together two worlds: the richness of our Andean heritage and a contemporary, playful approach to design.

At the heart of YAPA is Baby Alpaca—an exceptional natural fiber native to the Andes, treasured for its softness, warmth, lightness, and longevity. Our collections celebrate this remarkable material through modern knitwear designed to transcend seasons and be worn for years.

Each piece is thoughtfully designed in New York and handcrafted in Bolivia using techniques such as hand knitting, crochet, intarsia, and embroidery. Behind every sweater are skilled hands, generations of knowledge, and the time required to make something truly special.

We believe fashion can move at a different pace.

Made slowly. Made with intention. Made to last.

The YAPA Philosophy

Fewer, better pieces.

Rather than designing around constant trends, we create distinctive knitwear that brings together exceptional natural materials, craftsmanship, and contemporary design.

Contemporary Design

Modern silhouettes, unexpected details, and a playful New York point of view.

Andean Craftsmanship

Traditional techniques interpreted through contemporary design and brought to life by skilled Bolivian artisans.

Natural Fibers

Exceptional materials—including Baby Alpaca, llama, wool, and Pima cotton—chosen for their beauty, performance, and longevity.

People & Purpose

We work to create meaningful opportunities for Bolivian artisans while valuing the skill, time, and human hands behind every piece.

From the Andes to New York—and beyond.

YAPA. The most beautiful things are made slowly.
